Story

Tous les matins, Antoine va à la même place. C'est ici, à côté de chez lui. Il prend la même chose, à la même heure, depuis longtemps.

Every morning, Antoine goes to the same spot. It is here, just next to his home. He has the same thing, at the same hour, for years now.

Le monsieur le connaît bien. Antoine vient, il dit bonjour, il prend sa place. Le monsieur lui donne sa chose, sans question. Antoine donne son argent, il dit merci, il part. Tout est bien.

The man knows him well. Antoine comes in, says hello, takes his seat. The man hands him his thing, no questions asked. Antoine hands over his money, says thank you, and leaves. Everything is fine.

Mais ce matin, le monsieur n'est pas là. Une femme est à sa place. Elle est nouvelle, son nom est Camille. Antoine ne la connaît pas. Camille dit bonjour. Antoine dit bonjour aussi.

But this morning, the man is not there. A woman is in his place. She is new, her name is Camille. Antoine does not know her. Camille says hello. Antoine says hello back.

"La même chose, comme tous les jours," dit Antoine. Camille dit oui, mais elle ne sait pas. Elle ne connaît pas Antoine. Elle ne sait pas la même chose pour lui. Elle part à côté.

"The same thing, like every day," says Antoine. Camille says yes, but she does not know. She does not know Antoine. She does not know what "the same thing" is for him. She steps off to the side.

Après un petit moment, Camille vient. Elle donne à Antoine une chose, mais ce n'est pas la même chose. C'est une autre chose. Antoine voit bien. Il ne dit rien.

"Ce n'est pas la même chose," dit Antoine, "mais c'est bien. Merci." Camille dit merci aussi. Elle aime cela.

Antoine prend sa chose. Elle n'est pas la même, mais elle est bonne. C'est juste autre, comme Camille. Il donne son argent et il part.

Antoine has his thing. It is not the same one, but it is good. It is just different, like Camille. He hands over his money and leaves.

Le monde passe. Les gens vont au travail. Antoine va chez lui. Demain, il va venir à la même place. Demain, ça va être une autre fois, mais aussi la même chose.

The world rolls on. People are off to work. Antoine heads home. Tomorrow, he will come back to the same spot. Tomorrow will be another time, but also the same thing.
