Translation
work experience, internship, training course
Word origin
From Old French estage ('dwelling, period of residence'), from Vulgar Latin *staticum, related to stare ('to stand'). French and English stage share this root, but the meanings drifted apart: French kept the sense of 'a period spent somewhere', English narrowed to 'a platform' or 'a phase'.
