Alius is one of the pronominal adjectives, so its endings are not quite those of bonus. The forms to hold on to are alius, alia, aliud in the singular, with the neuter in -d rather than -um, and alii, aliae, alia in the plural; the genitive singular is borrowed from alter and comes out as alterius, while the dative is alii. Repeated, the word distributes: alii ... alii is 'some ... others', and aliud ... aliud is 'one thing ... another'. Keep it apart from alter, which means the other of exactly two.
