Latin has two words for "or" and they are not interchangeable. is the exclusive one: the alternatives shut each other out, so one of them must be wrong. offers a free choice where either would do. Doubled as ... it gives English "either ... or", and it joins anything from single words to whole clauses without affecting the case of what follows.
