duco

Duco, ducere, duxi, ductum, third conjugation. The imperative is duc, not duce: it belongs to the small club of four clipped imperatives, dic, duc, fac, fer.

The second sense, "consider, reckon", is not a metaphor bolted on later but the same idea of drawing a conclusion along a line, and it takes a double accusative: hoc leve duco, "I count this a small matter". Watch the compounds, which are everywhere: adduco, induco, produco, reduco, seduco. And watch the idiom uxorem ducere, "to marry", said only of the man, because he is the one leading the bride home. English took duke, duct, conduct, educate and induce from the family.
