Immo does two jobs that look opposite, and one rule covers both: it corrects what has just been said. Sometimes the correction is a denial, "no, on the contrary", and sometimes it is a strengthening, "yes, and more than that". Which one is in play depends entirely on the clause that follows, so read to the end before you translate.

Common reinforcements are immo vero and immo etiam, both leaning towards the strengthening sense. Watch the spelling: imo with one m is standard in manuscripts and appears in this corpus, but it is also the ablative of imus, "lowest", as in ab imo pectore. Nothing but context separates them, and the two turn up in the same kinds of sentence often enough to be a nuisance.
