Nimis is an adverb meaning too much, excessively. Its twin nimium is the neuter of the adjective nimius pressed into adverbial service, and in practice the pair are interchangeable, with nimis the older and plainer.
Two things to watch. Non nimis is an understatement, "not very", not a denial of excess, and the tone in Cicero is dry rather than emphatic. And nimis with a genitive - nimis pecuniae - is late and uncommon; classical prose reaches for nimium in that construction. Whichever you use, the excess is always a complaint: satis is enough, nimis is past the point where enough stopped.
