Odium, odii is second declension neuter, formed on the defective verb odi, "I hate", which like novi has only perfect forms with present meaning. There is no present odo.
The trap is direction. Odium alicuius can mean either the hatred someone feels or the hatred felt towards them, and only context decides; odium populi is usually the people's loathing of you, not yours of them. The idiom in odio esse alicui, "to be hated by someone", makes that passive sense explicit, and odio habere is the standard phrase for "to hate". English odious, odium and annoy all descend from it, as does the legal tag odiosa sunt restringenda, "harsh provisions are to be read narrowly".
