Praedictus, praedicta, praedictum is the perfect participle of praedico, praedicere, "say beforehand", working as an ordinary adjective. Two senses pull apart. In prophecy it is "foretold". In charters, deeds and chronicles it is the workhorse "aforesaid", pointing back to a person, place or sum already named, and that is what almost every instance in this corpus is doing.
The manuscripts write predictus without the diphthong, the routine medieval flattening of ae. The real trap is the neighbouring verb praedico, praedicare, first conjugation, "to preach". Praedicatus is "preached", praedictus is "foretold", and one vowel in the stem is all that separates the Dominicans' Ordo Praedicatorum from a prophecy.
