transeo

Transeo, transire, transii or transivi, transitum. It is trans bolted onto eo, so it inherits every awkwardness of that verb: transit, transeunt, transibam, transibo, transiit. The perfect is usually the short transii, and manuscripts write transiuimus where we print transivimus, since u and v were one letter.

Two constructions matter. The thing crossed can be a plain accusative - flumen transire - or it can sit after per. And the intransitive sense, of time slipping away, is just as common: tempus transit. That is where transient and transitory come from, while the grammarians' transitive verb is the one whose action goes across to an object. Late Latin adds a gentler use still, transire meaning simply to die, to pass over.
