Umerus, umeri, m., second declension. The classical spelling has no h. Humerus is a later mistake, made by scribes who heard an echo of humus, "ground", and it stuck so thoroughly that manuscripts write humeris and humeros far more often than the correct forms - which is exactly what this corpus does. English anatomy kept the error and calls the upper arm bone the humerus.
The plural covers the shoulders and the upper back together, treated as one load-bearing surface, which is why burdens, cloaks, yokes and crosses are all carried umeris rather than on one shoulder at a time. Nothing in English descends from it directly; shoulder is native Germanic.
