Vinco, vincere, vici, victum, third conjugation. Beyond the battlefield it covers winning an argument, carrying a vote, and simply prevailing: vicit sententia mea, "my view carried".

Two collisions to watch. The supine victum and participle victus are shared letter for letter with vivo, vivere, vixi, victum, and victus as a fourth-declension noun means "food, way of life" - so victus can be "conquered", "having lived", or "a livelihood", and only the sentence decides. Separately, vincio, vincire, vinxi, vinctum means "to bind", and vinctus with a t before the u is "bound", not "beaten". Victor, victoria, invictus and English victory, convince, evince, evict and province all come off vinco.
