进入 (jìn rù) means to enter or go into. 进 means to advance into and 入 means to enter. Together they form a slightly more formal compound than just 进 alone, often used in literary, technical, or formal contexts (进入房间, enter the room; 进入决赛, advance to the final; 进入新阶段, enter a new phase). In computing, 进入系统 means to log in. It contrasts with 退出 (tuì chū, to exit/withdraw).
