进/進 (jìn) means to enter, go in, or advance. As a standalone verb it covers entering a space (进门, enter the door; 进来, come in) and advancing or progressing (进步, to make progress; 进化, to evolve). As a directional complement it indicates movement inward: 走进 (walk into), 拿进 (bring in), 搬进 (move into). The polite invitation 请进 (please come in) is one of the most common fixed expressions in Mandarin hospitality.
