前往(qián wǎng) - to go to, to head for, to proceed to in Mandarin

前往 (qián wǎng) means to go to a place, but it is written and formal. You meet it in airport announcements, news reports and official notices, not in a conversation about going to the shops.

The everyday word is 去 (qù). 我去北京 (wǒ qù Běi jīng) is what a person says; 前往北京 (qián wǎng Běi jīng) is what a departure board says. Using 前往 (qián wǎng) with friends sounds like reading from a script, which is occasionally the joke and usually not.

One grammatical point: 前往 (qián wǎng) takes its destination directly, with no preposition, exactly like 去 (qù). It also has no object-free use, so a bare 我前往 (wǒ qián wǎng) is incomplete in a way that a bare 我去 (wǒ qù) is not.
