书架(shū jià) - bookcase in Mandarin

书架 (shūjià) is a "bookcase" or "bookshelf": 书 (shū) means "book" and 架 (jià) means "shelf, rack, frame". It is the piece of furniture, not the books themselves.

You will find a 书架 (shūjià) in a 书房 (shūfáng), "study", a bedroom, or a school classroom. The same character 架 (jià) turns up in other pieces of furniture built around a frame, like 衣架 (yījià), "coat hanger" or "clothes rack".

Note the difference from 图书馆 (túshūguǎn), "library", a whole building or room of shelves; a 书架 (shūjià) is just one unit of storage, however many books it happens to hold.
