The short version
Build the subjunctive out of the yo form
Take the yo form of the present indicative, drop the -o and swap the vowel: -ar verbs take -e endings, -er and -ir verbs take -a. That is the mirror of the indicative, and it means every yo-form irregularity carries straight through. Learn the commonest triggers first: quiero que, espero que, dudo que.
Quiero que vengas.
