Negation

The short version
Spanish demands the double negative English bans
English prescribes one negative per clause. Spanish runs an agreement system instead: any negative word sitting after the verb still needs no in front of it. No tengo nada, no vino nadie, no lo he visto nunca. Strip the no out to please your English instincts and the sentence breaks. Move the negative word in front of the verb and the no drops on its own.
No tengo nada.
