La conductora de la ambulancia

Sofía era conductora de ambulancia. Cada mañana se ponía su uniforme y salía a la calle. Le gustaba mucho su trabajo, porque podía ayudar a la gente. Sofía era una mujer tranquila y amable. Nunca corría con miedo. Su calma era su fuerza.

Sofía was an ambulance driver. Every morning she put on her uniform and went out onto the street. She liked her work very much, because she could help people. Sofía was a calm and kind woman. She never rushed about in fear. Her calm was her strength.

Un día de verano, recibió una llamada. Un hombre viejo había perdido el conocimiento en la playa. Estaba en la arena, cerca del mar, y no abría los ojos. Era una ocasión difícil, pero Sofía sabía qué hacer.

One summer day, she received a call. An old man had lost consciousness on the beach. He was on the sand, near the sea, and would not open his eyes. It was a difficult situation, but Sofía knew what to do.

Sofía subió a la ambulancia y salió pronto. La ciudad estaba llena de coches. El tráfico era mucho, pero ella no corría con miedo. Iba entre los coches con cuidado, tranquila y segura. Poco a poco, pensó: con calma llego mejor.

Sofía got into the ambulance and set off quickly. The city was full of cars. There was a lot of traffic, but she did not rush in fear. She went between the cars carefully, calm and sure. Little by little, she thought: with calm I arrive safely.

Cuando llegó a la playa, mucha gente esperaba cerca del hombre. Sofía se sentó en la arena, a su lado. Con manos suaves, movió al hombre con mucho cuidado. "Ya estoy aquí", dijo con voz suave. "Todo va a estar bien."

When she arrived at the beach, many people were waiting near the man. Sofía sat down on the sand, beside him. With gentle hands, she moved the man very carefully. "I am here now," she said in a soft voice. "Everything is going to be all right."

El hombre necesitaba azúcar. Sofía le dio un poco de agua con azúcar y miel. Despacio, el hombre abrió los ojos. Miró a Sofía y a su uniforme. "Gracias", dijo con voz débil. Sofía estaba feliz.

The man needed sugar. Sofía gave him a little water with sugar and honey. Slowly, the man opened his eyes. He looked at Sofía and her uniform. "Thank you," he said in a weak voice. Sofía was happy.

Sofía movió al hombre a la ambulancia con cuidado. Salió pronto, entre el tráfico, hacia el hospital. Llegó justo a tiempo. Los médicos ya esperaban en la puerta.

Sofía moved the man into the ambulance with care. She set off quickly, through the traffic, towards the hospital. She arrived just in time. The doctors were already waiting at the door.

Ese día, el hombre viejo estaba vivo porque una conductora tranquila hizo bien su trabajo. Sofía aprendió algo importante: en cada ocasión, la calma y el cuidado salvan vidas. Un trabajo suave y seguro también es un trabajo fuerte.

That day, the old man was alive because a calm driver did her job well. Sofía learned something important: in every situation, calm and care save lives. Gentle, sure work is also strong work.
