Cuando Lucía y Elena eran niñas, eran las mejores amigas. Cada día jugaban juntas cerca de un castillo viejo, en un jardín lleno de plantas. Su amistad era muy fuerte. Un día de verano, las dos amigas hicieron una promesa importante.

When Lucía and Elena were little girls, they were the best of friends. Every day they played together near an old castle, in a garden full of plants. Their friendship was very strong. One summer's day, the two friends made an important promise.

Elena escribió la promesa en una página de papel. "Vamos a ser amigas para siempre", escribió. "Cuando seamos grandes, vamos a vivir juntas en una ciudad grande." Lucía puso la página en su bolsillo. Para ella, esa promesa tenía mucha importancia.

Elena wrote the promise on a page of paper. "We're going to be friends forever," she wrote. "When we're grown up, we're going to live together in a big city." Lucía put the page in her pocket. For her, that promise mattered a great deal.

Many years later, Lucía was a grown woman. One day, while she was walking through the city, she found the old page in her pocket. She read the promise again and remembered her friend. "I still have to keep my promise," she thought. "Friendship matters. Being honest with a friend is obvious."
