Laura busca piso

Story

Laura tiene un trabajo nuevo en el centro, pero la casa de su madre está muy lejos. Cada día pierde mucho tiempo en la calle. Por eso ahora busca un piso. Quiere algo cerca del trabajo, con buena luz y, si puede ser, una habitación tranquila. No tiene mucho dinero, pero piensa que va a encontrar algo bueno.

Laura has a new job in the centre, but her mother's house is very far away. Every day she loses a lot of time on the road. That is why she is now looking for a flat. She wants somewhere near work, with good light and, if possible, a quiet room. She does not have much money, but she thinks she is going to find something good.

Una mañana llama por teléfono a Sofía, una mujer joven que busca a alguien para vivir en su piso. "Hola, vi tu nombre y quiero ver la habitación", dice Laura. Sofía está muy amable. "Claro, ven hoy por la tarde. El piso está en una zona muy buena de la ciudad."

One morning she phones Sofía, a young woman who is looking for someone to live in her flat. "Hello, I saw your name and I want to see the room," says Laura. Sofía is very friendly. "Of course, come this afternoon. The flat is in a very good part of the city."

Laura llega temprano. El edificio no es grande, pero es bonito. Ve a Sofía en la puerta y las dos hablan un momento frente a la mesa de la cocina. El piso es pequeño, pero tiene mucha luz. La habitación está al lado de la cocina y es muy tranquila. "Me gusta", dice Laura. "Es lindo y está cerca de mi trabajo. Para mí, esta zona es muy buena."

Laura arrives early. The building is not big, but it is pretty. She sees Sofía at the door and the two of them talk for a moment by the kitchen table. The flat is small, but it has lots of light. The room is next to the kitchen and is very quiet. "I like it," says Laura. "It's lovely and it's close to my work. For me, this area is very good."

Sofía hace un café para Laura y otro para ella. Hablan de la ciudad, de la zona, del trabajo de cada una. Sofía es agradable y conoce a mucha gente en la zona. "Vivir aquí es bueno", dice. "Hay de todo cerca, y la gente es amable." Laura siente que esta persona puede ser una buena amiga.

Sofía makes a coffee for Laura and another for herself. They talk about the city, about the area, about each one's job. Sofía is pleasant and knows a lot of people in the area. "Living here is good," she says. "There is everything nearby, and the people are friendly." Laura feels that this person could be a good friend.

Después de un rato, Laura ya no tiene ninguna duda. "¿Cuándo puedo venir?", pregunta. Sofía está feliz. "El mes que viene, si quieres. Vamos a ser buenas compañeras de piso." Las dos toman otro café junto a la mesa. Laura piensa en su madre, en el trabajo nuevo, en la ciudad grande. Por primera vez en mucho tiempo, todo parece ir bien.

After a while, Laura no longer has any doubt. "When can I come?" she asks. Sofía is happy. "Next month, if you like. We are going to be good flatmates." The two of them have another coffee by the table. Laura thinks about her mother, about the new job, about the big city. For the first time in a long while, everything seems to be going well.
