Se vende la camioneta

Story

Rafa tiene una camioneta vieja. Ya no la necesita y quiere venderla. Una mañana, pone un papel grande en la ventana: "Se vende." Debajo escribe su número. En el mercado, todo se sabe pronto. "¿Se vende la camioneta, Rafa?" le pregunta un amigo. "Sí, se vende. Está vieja, pero todavía anda bien."

Rafa has an old van. He doesn't need it any more and wants to sell it. One morning, he puts a big sign in the window: "For sale." Underneath he writes his number. In the market, everything is known quickly. "Is the van for sale, Rafa?" a friend asks him. "Yes, it's for sale. It's old, but it still runs well."

Aquí, en el mercado, se habla mucho. Se dice que la camioneta de Rafa es buena. Se dice también que es muy vieja. "No se puede pedir mucho dinero por una camioneta así", dice uno. "Pero tampoco se vende por nada", dice otro. Rafa escucha todo y no dice nada.

Here, in the market, people talk a lot. They say Rafa's van is good. They also say it is very old. "You can't ask much money for a van like that," says one. "But it doesn't sell for nothing either," says another. Rafa listens to everything and says nothing.

Por la tarde llega un hombre joven. "Busco una camioneta para mi trabajo", dice. "Aquí se venden coches y camionetas, ¿verdad?" "Esta se vende", dice Rafa. El hombre la mira por todos los lados. Abre la puerta, mira dentro. "¿Cuánto?" Rafa le dice un precio. El hombre piensa.

In the afternoon a young man arrives. "I'm looking for a van for my work," he says. "Cars and vans are sold here, right?" "This one's for sale," says Rafa. The man looks it over on all sides. He opens the door, looks inside. "How much?" Rafa tells him a price. The man thinks.

No se vende fácil una camioneta vieja. Pero este hombre la quiere. "Le doy un poco menos", dice. Rafa lo piensa. "Está bien. Por usted, se la dejo en ese precio." Se dan la mano. Así se hacen las cosas en el mercado: con calma y con respeto.

An old van isn't sold easily. But this man wants it. "I'll give you a little less," he says. Rafa thinks about it. "All right. For you, I'll let you have it at that price." They shake hands. That's how things are done in the market: calmly and with respect.

Al día siguiente, el hombre vuelve con el dinero. Rafa le da las llaves de la camioneta. "La voy a cuidar bien", dice el hombre, contento. Rafa lo ve irse en su vieja camioneta. En el mercado, ya se sabe: la camioneta de Rafa se vendió. Y se vendió bien.

The next day, the man comes back with the money. Rafa gives him the keys to the van. "I'll take good care of it," says the man, happy. Rafa watches him drive off in his old van. In the market, it's already known: Rafa's van has been sold. And it sold well.
