Relacionarse almost always takes the preposition con: relacionarse con alguien is "to get on with someone" or "to interact with someone". The plain, non-reflexive relacionar means "to connect" two things or ideas, not two people getting along, so the reflexive is the one to reach for when the subject is a person and a relationship.
