Translation
wild boar
Word origin
From Latin aper, 'wild boar', the same ancient word that German keeps as Eber. Esperanto took the Latin form directly rather than deriving the animal from porko.

- Latin
- Root
- aper
Examples
.
A wild boar ran through the forest.
.
The men hunted boars in the mountains.
.
The boar is not afraid of the dogs.
Esperanto could have said and did not, which tells you something: the boar was a distinct creature to the languages Zamenhof was borrowing from, hunted rather than farmed. Keep and apart, and note that the plural accusative piles four syllables onto a two-syllable root without a murmur.
