Butter is a mass noun, so it takes no plural in ordinary use: , not a count of butters. The verb means to butter something, and buterpano is a piece of bread and butter as one thing. This chapter's milestone story, La vulpo, turns on exactly the raid in the first example, with a fox going through a campsite for the butter, so you will meet the word again in the wild before long.
