Built from plus , to be at. Unusually for a compound of this shape, it is transitive: you say , with the accusative, and never . The preposition has already been used up inside the word.
Ĉeesto is presence and ĉeestanto is an attendee. The opposite is foresti, to be absent, with foresto for the absence. Note also that can stand alone with no object at all, as in the third example, where being there is the whole of the point.
