Esperanto splits what English merges. is the academic title, the holder of a doctorate; the person who treats your illness is a , from , to treat medically. Plenty of speakers use loosely for medics anyway, which reliably irritates the careful. The word carries a certain weight in the movement's own history, since Zamenhof published under the pen name Doktoro Esperanto - the one who hopes - and the language took its name from the pseudonym rather than the other way round.
