Do not put your family at risk for the money.
Four pieces, all of them ones you already have. En is in, danĝero at rank 504 is danger, -- means to cause or to put into, and -i makes it a verb. To somebody is to put them into danger. That is the whole word, and it is transitive by construction, because -- always is.
The -- is the load-bearing bit. It takes any root and makes a verb meaning to cause that state: big gives i to enlarge, to die gives to kill, to know gives to inform. Its mirror -- makes the thing happen by itself. If the pair is not yet automatic, the -ig- and -iĝ- article is the one to read next, because half of Esperanto's vocabulary is built from it.
The fence with the neighbours. Risko is the noun at rank 1,076, and to risk something is to accept a chance of loss yourself; is what you do to somebody or something else. Protekti at 1,069 is the opposite action and sekura at 1,118 the opposite state.
One nice derived form. is an endangered species: the passive participle of this very verb, doing in Esperanto exactly what the English participle does, with none of the irregularity.
