A is a count on the continental model, and an earl when you are translating from English - the two ranks match closely enough that Esperanto uses one word. His wife is a o, his lands a graflando or o. The word turns up constantly in the nineteenth-century novels that make up so much of early Esperanto literature, which is exactly why it sits inside the first thousand words while plenty of more useful modern nouns do not. Corpus frequency reflects what people translated, not what they needed at the market.
