kompatinda

Read it as built, kompat- plus -ind-: worthy of pity. That construction is the whole trick of -ind-, which turns the object of a feeling into an adjective, so kredinda is believable and aminda is loveable. English "poor" is the trap here, because it does two unrelated jobs. Malriĉa is the one about money; kompatinda is the one about deserving sympathy. "The poor child" in the sense of pity is la kompatinda infano, never la malriĉa infano unless the child genuinely has no money.
