to advise, to recommend

ripozon.
The doctor recommended a long rest.
?
What do you advise me to do?
, .
He advised that we should leave the town.
konsilon.
She gave me good advice.
The grammar is the trap. What gets advised is the direct object, and the person advised takes : . English does the opposite, putting the person straight after the verb, so sounds right to an English ear and is not. Where a whole action follows, either an infinitive after or a clause with the volitive -u will do the job. The noun konsilo is a piece of advice, countable in a way English advice refuses to be, and is an adviser, o a council.
