Translation

basket

Word origin

From Latin corbis, a wicker basket, which also gave German Korb and the Romance forms. English has no everyday descendant of it, which is why the word looks less familiar than most of Esperanto's Latin stock.

She carried a basket full of fruit.

.

The bread is lying in the basket on the table.

is the container; o is the small one and o the hamper. The root also names the sport: korbopilko is basketball, built the way Esperanto prefers, out of two words the learner already has rather than a borrowing. Note that takes or for what is in it, and both are current.
