is a straight loan from the Romance side of the vocabulary, and it behaves exactly as you would expect: for the adverb, o for cruelty as an abstract quality, o for a cruel person. The one that surprises English speakers is o, a cruel act, built with no extra machinery at all. Note that the person on the receiving end takes : , not . And unlike English cruel, it carries no ironic softening - there is no Esperanto habit of calling a merely sharp remark cruel, so reach for if that is what you mean.
