is a build, and a completely transparent one:
naĝi to swim, plus --, the place suffix, plus the
noun ending. The place for swimming. A learner who knows both pieces has never
seen the word before and still cannot get it wrong.
-- is one of the highest-yield suffixes in the language and it works the
same way every time: a school (from , to learn), o a
kitchen (, to cook), a bathroom or bathing place (),
o a dormitory, o a shop. It attaches to whatever the place is
for, verb or noun, and it never surprises you.
Two neighbours worth knowing. Naĝbaseno - swim + basin - is the other common
word for a pool, slightly more technical, and is the place you go to
bathe rather than to swim laps. Naĝanto is a swimmer, naĝarto the art of
swimming, o a fin or flipper.
The other -- build in this chapter is
elirejo, the way out, and the
affixes for size and people
article covers the wider family.
