Translation
feather; pen
Word origin
From Latin pluma ('feather, down'), via French plume. The writing sense rode along for free: for centuries the pen was a feather, a quill, so one word covered both. English plume and plumage share the root.

Examples

A hundred years ago people wrote letters with a pen.
.
He found a long feather on the ground.
Like French plume, is both the feather on the bird and the pen in your hand - the quill did the merging centuries before Esperanto existed. Context settles it, and where it does not, birdoplumo and skriboplumo spell it out.
