est un terme familier et masculin désignant un homme ou un garçon - registre oral et décontracté. Le s final est toujours muet : /ɡa/ au singulier comme au pluriel. Plus informel que homme, moins vulgaire que certains argots. Très fréquent dans le français parlé ordinaire.
Les gars s'adresse à un groupe mixte ou masculin dans un registre décontracté : allez les gars, on y va ! (come on guys, let's go!). Synonymes selon le registre : mec (very informal), type (neutral informal), individu (neutral). Gars est plus répandu dans le nord et le centre de la France ; dans le midi on entend plus souvent garçon ou gars avec d'autres accents.
