Lacrima, lacrimae is first declension feminine, and like most words for a thing that comes in floods it is commoner in the plural than the singular: lacrimae, lacrimas, lacrimis do the bulk of the work. The older spelling lacruma turns up in early texts and the medieval one lachryma in later ones, with a Greek-looking ch and y that belong to nobody.
It is one of the two great emotional nouns of Latin poetry alongside dolor, and Virgil's sunt lacrimae rerum has been mistranslated for four hundred years precisely because rerum can be either the tears the world sheds or the tears things cause. English gets lachrymose from it, and the French larme is the same word worn thin.
