is "now" at the moment of speaking, standing against and for a moment in the past. It is worth keeping it distinct from , which the dictionaries also gloss as "now": adds "already, by this point" to a time, whereas simply names the present one. In argument it also carries the sense "as things actually stand", usually as , setting the real case against a hypothetical one just entertained. Adverb, so no case.
