fixes a point in past or narrative time, "then, at that moment", and in a sequence of actions it slides into "next". It is the past-facing counterpart of . Latin also uses it in the correlative pair ... , which means "both ... and especially" and weights the second item. covers much the same ground and becomes commoner in later Latin; in classical prose is the default.
