Deinde is the sequencing word of Latin narrative. It is literally de plus inde, from there, and it marks the next step rather than the next moment. Writers stack it into a chain, primum ... deinde ... postremo, first ... then ... finally, which is worth learning as a set because it is how a Roman lays out an argument. Poets often clip it to dein when the metre wants two syllables instead of three.
