What should we do then?
Tunc points at a moment already named, 'then, at that time', and it is the natural partner of nunc, 'now'. Classical prose more often uses tum for the same job; tunc gains ground under the empire and takes over almost completely in the Latin of the Vulgate, where sentence after sentence opens with it. Treat tum and tunc as interchangeable in meaning and let the author's date tell you which to expect.
