Procul is an adverb, not a preposition, and that is the trap. For the thing you are far from it takes ab with the ablative - procul ab urbe - or, in verse, a bare ablative, procul urbe. Procul urbem is simply wrong.
Two phrases pay for themselves. Procul dubio, "beyond doubt", is standard prose. Procul este, profani is the Sibyl clearing the ground at the mouth of the underworld in Aeneid 6, and it has been quoted at the uninvited ever since. Against longe, which measures how far something has gone or intensifies a comparative - longe optimus, "far the best" - procul simply places a thing away from here.
