Reddo, reddere, reddidi, redditum, third conjugation. It is red- ("back") plus do, and the construction follows the simple verb: accusative of the thing, dative of the person. Note the conjugation trap first, because it catches everyone - do itself is first conjugation, but its prefixed compounds reddo, trado, condo, perdo all go third. Only the reduplicated perfect reddidi keeps a trace of the parent.
The second sense is the useful one for reading. With a predicate adjective or noun in the accusative, reddo means "make X into Y": clarum reddere, "to make famous", certiorem reddere, "to inform". Nothing is being given back at all. Ecclesiastical Latin also leans on it for repayment in the moral sense, reddere rationem, "to give an account". English gets render, rendition and surrender through French.
