地铁站(dì tiě zhàn) - underground station, subway station in Mandarin

地铁站 (dì tiě zhàn) means underground or subway station, from 地铁 (dì tiě, underground railway, literally "earth iron") and 站 (zhàn, station, stop), the same 站 found in 火车站 (huǒ chē zhàn), train station, and 公交车站 (gōng jiāo chē zhàn), bus stop.

地铁 (dì tiě) itself is short for 地下铁路 (dì xià tiě lù), "underground iron road". British learners should note it covers what they'd call "the tube" or "the underground" rather than the American "subway" register, though both translations work.

站 (zhàn) is a useful transport-vocabulary building block: swap the first half for any mode of transport and you get its stop or station, so 最近的地铁站在哪里 (zuì jìn de dì tiě zhàn zài nǎ lǐ), "where is the nearest underground station", follows the same pattern as asking for the nearest bus stop or train station.
