电视剧(diàn shì jù) - TV drama, television series in Mandarin

电视剧 (diàn shì jù) means a TV drama or television series. It combines 电视 (diàn shì, "television") with 剧 (jù, "drama, play"), the same character that appears in 京剧 (jīng jù, "Beijing opera").

Chinese TV dramas are often broadcast as long daily runs of episodes, and 追剧 (zhuī jù), literally "to chase a drama", is the common slang for binge-watching a series, built from the same 剧 (jù).

电视剧 (diàn shì jù) is distinct from 电影 (diàn yǐng, "film"), a single self-contained work, and from the broader 电视节目 (diàn shì jié mù, "TV programme"), which covers any kind of show.
