复制(fù zhì) - to copy, to duplicate in Mandarin

复制 (fùzhì) means "to copy" or "to duplicate", whether you are copying a block of text on a computer or copying a physical object. 复 (fù) carries a sense of "repeat, duplicate" and 制 (zhì) means "to make", so together the word is literally "make again".

On a keyboard, 复制 (fùzhì) is the label under Ctrl+C, and its natural partner 粘贴 (zhāntiē) sits under Ctrl+V for "paste". The two nearly always appear together as 复制粘贴 (fùzhì zhāntiē), "copy and paste".

Both syllables carry a falling fourth tone, 复 (fù) and 制 (zhì), giving the word a short, clipped rhythm; do not soften either syllable into a neutral tone.
