有风(yǒu fēng) - windy in Mandarin

有风 (yǒufēng) is how Mandarin describes windy weather. It follows the same pattern as 下雨 (xiàyǔ, to rain): a verb, 有 (yǒu, to have, there is), plus its object, 风 (fēng, wind), rather than a true adjective. There is no separate word for "windy" the way English has one - Mandarin just says "there is wind".

Like 下雨, 有风 (yǒufēng) takes no subject. 今天有风 (jīntiān yǒufēng) means "it's windy today", with 今天 (jīntiān, today) setting the scene rather than acting as the thing that "has" the wind.

It sits naturally alongside the other weather patterns: 有云 (yǒuyún) for cloudy, 有雨 for rainy. English speakers sometimes reach for an adjective and say something like 风的 (fēng de), which is not natural; stick to the verb-object shape.
