Verb aspect: the part that actually takes years
Almost every verb is a pair, and English gives you no instinct for choosing between them. Start noticing it on day one.

Aspect takes years; the cases take months
Almost every Russian verb comes as a pair, one presenting the action as a process and the other as a completed whole. English splits some of that across its tenses and leaves the rest to context, so there is no rule to carry over. Learn both halves together as one vocabulary item and start noticing early.
