Spanish · Chapter 22 · Lesson 14 · Grammar primer

Nosotros commands: let's...

hablemos, comamos, vamos a comer - the 'let's' command, the vamos (not vayamos) exception for ir, and the everyday vamos a + infinitive alternative.

The short version

Let's go is vamos, let's not go is no vayamos

The nosotros command is the first-person-plural subjunctive in both directions, with exactly one famous exception. Affirmative 'let's go' is vamos, the plain indicative, not vayamos. Negate it and it snaps straight back to the subjunctive. Flag that one pair and the rest of the form behaves.

No vayamos sin paraguas.

Let's not go without an umbrella.

That's the gist. The full article goes deeper - more examples, the edge cases, the why - and the practice below scores like a vocabulary session and earns the same XP.
