Spanish · Chapter 35 · Lesson 8 · Grammar primer
Causative verbs: hacer, dejar, mandar + infinitive
How Spanish says make/have/let someone do something: me hizo esperar (made me wait), le hice arreglar el coche (had him fix the car), me dejaron entrar (let me in), and the hacer que + subjunctive alternative.
The short version
Lo or le depends on the infinitive, not the person
With hacer plus an infinitive, the person you push around is a direct object while the infinitive has no object of its own: lo hice trabajar. Give the infinitive its own object and the person is bumped to indirect: le hice arreglar el coche. Word for word, I made to-him fix the car. Odd to English ears, perfectly regular in Spanish.
Le hice arreglar el coche.
